proceeds will be donated to the Joe Newton Scholarship Award of Excellence.  Joe Newton taught and coached at York High School from 1956-2017.  During that time his created a running culture at York which reached throughout the community, and had a profound impact on running in the state of Illinois and across the nation.  Winning an unprecedented 28 State Championships, Newton coached young men to be great runners, but even better people.  Joe Newton changed thousands of lives during his time as a coach and mentor.  He passed away at the age of 88 in December of 2017.  His legacy will live on through his family, the men he taught, and through his annual scholarship fund, awarded to high school senior student athletes.  there is a section to donate additional funds via the race registration page.
